Ive used this for a couple of months now (with only one delayed cab) and will always use it over calling. Very quick and you can track your cabs location! Brilliant.
Just used it for the first time. Once a cabbie accepts your fare you can track the cabs location on the way to you. Didnt have to repeat where I was going - he already knew cause I put in the address. I was able to time in perfectly so that when he pulled up I just stepped outside of the restaurant I was at. Wasnt sure it was him cause his "available" light was on. Pretty impressed though!
This app is a huge improvement over phoning for a cab, as you get confirmation and feedback on where the taxi is that has agreed to pick you up. That avoids the horrible uncertainty that makes phoning such an annoyance, and it allows you to accurately estimate time to arrival. The app also phones you that the cab has arrived (although its often a minute or two late).
There are a few things that should be improved, such as more frequent update of the map, and more precise timing of the phone call, but this makes taking a taxi fun again.
Vancouver also needs to allow more cabs on the road to avoid long waits at busy times.
I dont know how people still call and wait for dispatch to take their calls. I will never call yellow cab ever again...only use this app
I have used this app a few times and think it is brilliant. The cabs arrive so quickly...the app is easy to use.
I was hammered and successfully ordered a cab! Pretty neat being able to follow the cab on a map while it was on its way to pick us up. It doesnt work great during super busy hours, but nothing does. Ive used this dozens of times now and still works great.
Some bad moments
About an hour ago I tried calling Yellow Cab for a pickup in Kitsilano, but the line was continually busy. Remembering that they now have an iPhone app I downloaded it, entered the information and ordered a cab. The order was immediately accepted.
I waited for 15 or 20 minutes, only to then receive a message stating that the cab had been canceled. No explanation, no apology. Absolute waste of time.
You still need to call them to assure you get a phone call when they show up.
There is no way to know that they will call.
Yes, if you are standing around you dont need to wait on the phone and can wait on the street its fine. If you were hoping for service similar to calling the app doesnt deliver.
Tried it for the first time tonight. Yellow cab never showed up. The order never made it to the system. The button to check status only displayed the order number but no cab location. Driver from yellow told us it never really worked; they opt for dispatched calls.
This app has failed me twice in one night. In busy times, your booking will expire without warning, and list as "booking complete" when in fact the taxi hasnt ever arrived. I am currently in the taxi, 2 hours after first requesting a booking on this useless app.
Booked a cab through the app at 3pm for a cab to come at 7pm. I was waiting outside for the cab and kept checking the app. At 7:15 checked the app again and the cab got cancelled with no warning. Dont depend on the app. Call in.
I booked a taxi 2 hours in advance using this app. The app said booking confirmed, and it appeared in my bookings section.
5mins before the taxi is due, I open the app to try the "check your taxi" feature that shows where it is on Google maps. This was not available.
Anyway, no taxi turned up. I couldnt get through to speak to anyone on the phone. I ended up having to drive myself to the destination just to minimize the amount of time I was late.
Do not use or rely on this app for anything important!
